Material was spec-true, no surprises. That matters when I'm bidding tight. Wegravel has become my default for residential drops.

Asked for FDOT-spec material and that's exactly what came off the truck. Driver had the ticket ready, weighed and clean.

What is #4 Crushed Stone (1½" – 2½") used for?

Coarse 1½"–2½" crushed limestone (#4) for heavy drainage, erosion control, large pipe bedding, and railroad ballast applications. Big, angular, fast-draining.

Heavy drainage & dry wells
Where #57 is too small, #4 stone handles large-volume drainage — dry wells, infiltration trenches, and stormwater overflow chambers move water fast through #4's huge voids.
Erosion control & gully fill
Place in eroding gullies, ditches, and channel margins to break velocity and stabilize the bed. Angular shape locks in place once seated.
Large pipe bedding
Bed and backfill large stormwater pipes, box culverts, and 24"+ utility runs. Supports pipe geometry; high voids handle infiltrating water.
Construction entrance pads
Anti-tracking pads at construction sites — 6"+ deep #4 stone strips mud off vehicle tires before they reach the road, per most stormwater regulations.
Heavy equipment access mats
Temporary access mats over soft ground at construction and forestry sites. Big stone holds equipment up where smaller material would sink.
Decorative large-stone landscape
Statement stone in dry creek beds, around large boulders, in xeriscape designs, and as a coarse mulch in commercial landscape.
Not ideal for these applications:
  • Not ideal for walking surfaces (too coarse)
  • Not ideal for driveways (use #57 or #67 instead)
  • Not ideal for concrete or asphalt mixes
  • Not ideal for paver bases or fine drainage

Got a text when the truck left and another when it was 15 minutes out. That alone is worth switching from my old supplier.
