#57 stone is a clean, washed crushed stone with particles from ½" to 1", meeting ASTM D448 #57 gradation. It is one of the most widely used aggregates in North America — equally at home as a driveway material, a drainage stone, and a coarse aggregate for concrete.

Both are ¾"-top-size crushed stones. #57 has a broader range (½" up to 1") with some larger pieces; #67 is more uniform around ¾". For most homeowner work — driveways, French drains, pads — they are functionally interchangeable. Contractors mixing concrete to a tight spec should follow whatever their mix design calls for.

Yes — it is one of the most popular driveway stones in Florida. For best long-term results, lay 2"–3" of #57 over a compacted 4"–6" base of lime rock base or road base. The base gives strength; #57 gives drainage and a clean finished look.

At 4" depth, one ton covers about 60 sq ft. At 2" depth, one ton covers about 120 sq ft. For a typical 12'×40' driveway top course at 3" deep, plan on about 10 tons.

It will lock together under traffic but stays loose enough to drain. Use it as a top course over a true compacting base (like lime rock base) if you want both stability and drainage. Pure #57 by itself works for casual driveways and pads but moves over time without an underbase.
