Material was spec-true, no surprises. That matters when I'm bidding tight. Wegravel has become my default for residential drops.

Asked for FDOT-spec material and that's exactly what came off the truck. Driver had the ticket ready, weighed and clean.

What is Road Base (2"-fines) used for?

Crushed limestone road base (2" minus with fines, ASTM D2940) for driveways, building pads, parking lots, and roads. Compacts to 95% density — built to carry loads.

Driveway & road base course
The standard compacting base under residential driveways, rural roads, and parking lots. 4"–6" compacted lift carries vehicle and truck loads for years.
Building pad subgrade
Use as a compacted subgrade under concrete slabs, sheds, garages, and ag buildings. Provides a level, load-rated foundation that won't settle if installed correctly.
Parking lots & access drives
Commercial and industrial parking lots run on a compacted road-base course. Handles passenger traffic and delivery-truck point loads alike.
Trench backfill (compactable)
Replaces excavated soil in utility trenches and pipe runs where load-bearing recompaction is required (e.g., under future pavement).
Heavy-equipment & RV pads
Compacted road base under stone-armored pads handles construction equipment, RV storage, boat trailers, and ag implements without rutting.
Erosion-resistant access roads
For rural or job-site access roads in wet ground, a compacted road-base course resists rutting, displacement, and washout far better than uncompacted soil.
Not ideal for these applications:
  • Not ideal for drainage applications (use clean #57 or #89)
  • Not ideal for finished decorative landscape
  • Not ideal for paver setting beds (use stone dust)
  • Not ideal for surfaces meant to drain rapidly

I've used the big-box stores for years. The delivered price here beat them by a lot once I added their fees. No surprise charges at the end.

Frequently asked questions

Road base — also called crusher run, quarry process (QP), dense-grade aggregate (DGA), or graded aggregate base (GAB) — is a graded crushed limestone with particles up to 2" mixed with fines. The blend is engineered to compact tight under rolling, forming a strong, near-impermeable base for driveways, roads, and pads.
