Material was spec-true, no surprises. That matters when I'm bidding tight. Wegravel has become my default for residential drops.

Asked for FDOT-spec material and that's exactly what came off the truck. Driver had the ticket ready, weighed and clean.

What is Ballast Rock used for?

Angular 4"–6" crushed stone for railroad ballast, heavy erosion control, large gabion baskets, and major drainage. Built to carry loads and resist movement.

Railroad track ballast
The original application: angular 4"–6" stone supports railroad ties, distributes train loads, and drains rapidly. Holds rail geometry under continuous vibration and weather.
Heavy erosion armor
Armor stone for slopes, shorelines, and channel banks subject to severe water action. Where smaller gabion stone won't hold, ballast rock stays put.
Large gabion baskets
Fill for oversized gabion structures — bridge abutments, major retaining walls, marine bulkheads — where larger stones provide better load distribution.
Stormwater infiltration & detention
Massive voids let huge volumes of water enter detention basins, infiltration galleries, and stormwater chambers fast. Resists migration under high flow.
Heavy construction entrance pads
For job sites with serious mud and heavy truck traffic — quarries, road jobs, large construction sites — 4"–6" ballast strips mud better than smaller #4 stone.
Decorative large landscape rock
Statement stone in commercial landscape, industrial ornamental settings, and large-scale xeriscape. Reads as natural quarried stone.
Not ideal for these applications:
  • Not ideal for residential driveways
  • Not ideal for walking surfaces
  • Not ideal for small drainage systems
  • Not ideal for paver bases or fine work

Half-acre project. The driver placed the load exactly where the crew could reach it. Saved us hours of shoveling.

Got a text when the truck left and another when it was 15 minutes out. That alone is worth switching from my old supplier.
